Actor Will Smith is being slammed by another veteran actor who also happens to be a senior member of the Academy.
According to local media reports, 57-year-old Harry Lennix is bashing Will Smith in public, while shaming the entire board of the Academy for giving the star a ‘toothless’ punishment for assaulting comedian Chris Rock.
Lennix was seen comparing the recent 10 years of Oscar’s punishment to that given to a school playground bully, adding how it was nowhere near the punishment that he should have received for a crime so big.
And just in case that was not enough, he has a personal message for Will Smith which includes how the star should return his Oscar award for ‘best actor’ immediately after his ruthless behavior on stage in front of the world.
“The time has come that he voluntarily returns the award gracefully”- Lennix continued.
Smith has been barred from taking part in any of the academy’s functions, be it in person or virtually.
The star immediately responded to the decision by stating how he accepted it and respected it. But many including Lennix felt that his oscar award should have been snatched away.
As it is, actor Will Smith has already resigned from the Academy ahead of time so it didn’t appear like the punishment was going to affect him anyway.
Sources added how the Academy’s members were absolutely split on how to make a ruling on such a difficult case because they simply weren’t used to such dramatic affairs during a live broadcast involving such huge stars.
All 9000 members had difficulty at first in making a decision but in the end, they managed to pull through.
