The well-known Ryan Reynolds’ appearance during the Super Bowl commercials was in the best way possible.
Ryan Rodney Reynolds, 45, is a Canadian actor and film producer. He began his career starring in the Canadian teen soap opera Hillside 1991–1993 and had minor roles before landing the lead role on the sitcom Two Guys and a Girl between 1998 and 2001.
Reynolds’ biggest commercial success came with the superhero films Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018), in which he played the title character. The former set numerous records at the time of its release for an R-rated comedy and his performance earned him nominations at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards and the Golden Globe Awards.
On Sunday, the Super Bowl season came to an end with Los Angeles Rams beating the Cincinnati Bengals at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. The Super Bowl is the annual playoff championship game of the National Football League (NFL).
It has served as the final game of every NFL season since 1966, replacing the NFL Championship Game. Beginning in 2022, the game is played on the second Sunday in February. Winning teams are awarded the Vince Lombardi Trophy, named after the eponymous coach who won the first two Super Bowls.
Meanwhile, the international actor Reynolds made a cameo during a McDonald’s commercial shown at the halftime show. The advertisements featured a number of celebrities including Kanye, NASCAR driver, Bubba Wallace, and Edwin Castro, the world’s most popular FIFA streamer.
Due to the fact, it was only his voice that was featured and Reynolds was harder to spot in the video. The Deadpool star voiced the popular McDonald’s character, Grimace.
Reynolds’ alcohol brand, Aviation American Gin, was one of the 1st tips to the people off to the cameo. The ad sees the cartoon character as one of many customers stuck on what to order.
After the McDonald’s Super Bowl 2022 spot aired, Reynolds’ Aviation Gin brand tweeted out an “educated guess” that “the voice of Grimace sounds oddly familiar. Did @McDonalds hire a certain Canadian drink-slinging McRiblet?”
In a responding tweet to himself, Reynolds revealed that indeed he is Grimace saying: “Yes. Confirmed. It’s called range.”
The social media promotional links didn’t end there, McDonald’s gave its own soft confirmation of the casting, by tweeting “where do u keep ur grimace suit”.
In the 30-second ad, the Grammy winner, who is a huge fan of McDonald’s, stopped by one of its drive-thrus in a Sherp ATV to place his order.
However, just like the other customers featured in the commercial, he had a hard time deciding on what he wanted to order, telling the operator, “Can I get uhhhhhhhhh” — freezing and hanging on the last word while he makes his selection.
In a press release, McDonald’s explained that the commercial was inspired by “a universal fan truth” that “sometimes, you just can’t decide what to order.” Last Year, he asked the fast-food conglomerate to bring back the purple character for he is one of the self-professed fans of Grimace.
On the more obvious 2nd appearance on the Super Bowl halftime commercials, the actor was seen when the ad for his 4th coming film “The Adam Project” aired.
The science fiction film directed by Shawn Levy sees Reynolds star as time-traveling pilot Adam, who is attempting to come to terms with his past while enlisting the help of his younger self and recently passed away father to save the future.
