Several people were left hanging upside down after getting trapped on a rollercoaster that malfunctioned during a ride.
The terrifying incident happened in Crandon, Wisconsin, where thrill-seekers gathered at Forest County Festival to spend the sunny Sunday having fun and enjoying rides.
The beautiful day, however, turned into a horrific scene when one of the rides carrying eight people, including seven children, stopped midair.
As a result of a mechanical malfunction, the rollercoaster riders were left hanging upside down for a long time before the emergency services arrived at the theme park and rescued them.
“They did all very well. Obviously, they were scared. They had been upside down for quite some time,” firefighter EMT Erica Kostichka said.
Fortunately, all eight passengers were rescued successfully. Though it appeared they were not injured in their ordeal, they were all taken to hospital for evaluation.
“A rescue mission is not something that’s quick. Life safety is number one,” Kostichka added as it was revealed that local fire departments were called because the park didn’t have sufficient equipment to perform the rescue.
Meanwhile, Capt. Brennan Cook of the Crandon Fire Department confirmed the nature of the Fire Ball rollercoaster’s failure saying the ride suffered some kind of “mechanical failure” that led to it getting stuck high up in the air.
“The ride was recently inspected by the state of Wisconsin here on site and at this time, we do not have any other information,” he added.
Speaking of the barely-avoided tragedy was also one witness who praised a little girl that allegedly told the rescuers to get her later and save an older passenger who was struggling first.
“That little girl deserves a medal for courage for sure. Glad no one was hurt and everyone is able to go home to their families tonight,” Scott Brass wrote in his Facebook post.
