One Twitter user said: “We need to hear experts in the field. Genuine conservationists, not William and Kate, who show their “respect for the environment by shooting birds and animals for fun, and by fishing.”

“Prince William is a Patron of a few Wildlife and Wild Bird Organizations; he also loves shooting them! Lovely Family activity,” another social media user agreed.

The couple has also reportedly brought young Prince George along with them on grouse hunts over the years but was also blasted by fans saying that bringing the Prince along at similar shooting parties could have an impact on the seven-year-old’s psyche.

Director Mimi Bekhechi from PETA sparked a lively debate on Twitter. She said in a statement: “Very few people these days view shooting for “sport” as anything other than a violent perversion that hurts and kills beautiful birds who are minding their own business.”

Ms. Bekhechi continued: “To help him grow into a responsible, compassionate leader, his parents must teach him respect for all living beings. For a child to be compelled to witness such casual killing and by a parent, he looks up to, no less is potentially as harmful to his or her psyche as it is to the bird’s very life.”

“It can desensitize children to the suffering of animals which is cause for concern, given the well-established link between cruelty to animals in childhood and antisocial behavior in adulthood and could give George nightmares,” she added.

Prince William and Kate have been sharing the royal family’s hunting tradition with George for the past couple of years, as the young royal reportedly attended his first grouse-hunting expedition in 2018. The Duchess of Cambridge loves the life of royal country wife and mother and that includes an enthusiasm for hunting.
