Russel Crowe has taken his fans by surprise as he revealed he is deliberating stepping down from acting for good.
The 59-year-old Hollywood legend, who appeared in the likes of Gladiator, Robin Hood, Noah, and Les Misérables, has begun contemplating the drastic decision after four decades in the acting industry.
Announcing the news at the 57th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in Czech Republic, he said:
“You are standing in front of the mirror, and go: ‘Who the f**k is that?’ I am in that period now.
“I will take Ridley Scott [director] as my role model: he is still discovering new things in his work. Or I will just stop and you will never hear from me again. I haven’t decided what it’s going to be. These are two very valid choices.”
Russell’s idea of stepping down from acting may have been inspired by a variety of factors including his aging appearance and his focus on his relationship with Britney Theriot.
The 31-year-old girlfriend of The Pope’s Exorcist star was by the actor’s side on Friday as he collected top honor at the film festival in Karlovy Vary.
The couple have appeared to be inseparable for the last few months, whereas they were previously seen together at the actor’s Indoor Garden Party Tour in Sydney, Australia.
During a series of gigs along the east coast, Crowe delivered memorable performances while his girlfriend served as his backup dancer.
The pair have also been said to be busy flying between Sydney, Nana Glen and Coffs Harbour where Crowe is building the so-called Aussiewood – a $400 million film studio.
While the actor owns a home in Sydney, he also has a 400-hectare farm in Nana Glen just miles from the soon-to-rise Aussiewood.
