Three Russian cosmonauts wore the national colors of Ukraine as they flew to the International Space Station.
Wearing the national colors of Ukraine has widely been seen as a way to oppose Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of the country.
Oleg Artemyev, Sergey Korsakov, and Denis Matveyew, who were the first new arrivals on the ISS since the start of the invasion last month, flew to the station onboard the Soyuz MS21 spacecraft from Kazakhstan.
The three cosmonauts blasted off successfully from the launch facility at 8:55 pm on Friday.
They arrived at the station more than three hours later, joining two fellow Russians, a German, and four Americans on the orbiting outpost.
In the video of the docking, Artemyev can be seen wearing a blue spacesuit before he entered the ISS. As they entered through the hatch, all three cosmonauts were wearing yellow spacesuits with the Russian flag also featured on it.
It is not clear what message they were trying to send but when Artemyev was asked about their yellow flight suits, he explained that every crew chooses their own flight suits.
“It became our turn to pick a color. But in fact, we had accumulated a lot of yellow material so we needed to use it. So that’s why we had to wear yellow,” he explained, according to the Associated Press.
One person commented: “Just saw it fly over this week. Brighter than normal. I think it’s only about 200 miles up. You can get times and direction to help find it on their website.”
Another wrote: “They better be careful that he doesn’t leave them “hanging around”.”
A third said: “Proud of you guys.. Well done.”
