It was one family’s heartbreak after a young schoolboy had reportedly drowned in front of his girlfriend after jumping into a canal.
Sources from local media outlets were quick to mention how the victim was identified as 14-year-old George Lund. He jumped into the River Aire in Hunslet, Leeds during the afternoon hours of Saturday.
Today, he was pictured for the first time and his mother explained how much she misses her gorgeous baby and how Easter was spent in absolute grief and mourning as they longed for the child.
Authorities revealed how he just happened to be walking on the towpath with his girlfriend on a Bank holiday and then he felt the urge to jump into the river where he reportedly drowned, before the young lover’s eyes.
Today, his heartbroken grandmother says that he had actually jumped as a part of a prank that had taken place on Easter morning. But little did he know or was aware that it would cost him his life.
“It was a joke and I don’t know why he thought it would be okay to do it. He took his own life, unironically and this is a bitter pill that we must all follow”- he adds.
Loved ones could be seen placing flowers near the canal as this was the exact spot where he died. “He thought he could get out of cold deep water with ease but he couldn’t”- the authorities have added.
The entire incident has left a feeling of absolute sadness in the community during the Easter holiday while the child’s parents are mourning their little one’s death.
“The pain of losing a loved one is just too difficult to bear. We don’t know what to make of it”- another mentioned.
