Secret Service agents apprehended two “suspicious” men in Washington after uncovering body armor and an assault-style rifle in their vehicle.
Several U.S. Secret Service officers stormed the 1000 block of Wisconsin Avenue NW block in Georgetown, which lies just a mile away from the White House, after two men were seen “acting suspiciously” in the area.
Upon inspecting their vehicle, which had Indiana plates with “Marine Corps Veteran” written on them, the officers recovered body armor components and weapons including an assault rifle.
While one of the men was wearing tan pants and a black sweater, the other was cladded in a camo jacket, jeans, and a shirt.
As of this writing, it remains unclear if the black sedan the two men were using belongs to them.
Following the discovery, one of the suspects was arrested on suspicion of carrying a dangerous weapon and possession of a prohibited weapon. The other man was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon, unregistered ammunition, unregistered firearm, unlawful transportation of a firearm, and carrying a firearm without a license.
While the suspects’ motives remain unclear, it is well-known that Georgetown is home to various politicians such as former Secretary of State John Kerry and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Among renowned political figures who used to reside in the area is also Former President Thomas Jefferson who lived in the neighborhood during his vice presidency.
Georgetown was furthermore home to Former President John F. Kennedy during his time in the US senate.
