Emilio Delgado, a Mexican-American actor who starred in Sesame Street, has passed away at the age of 81.
The tragic news of the beloved actor’s passing was confirmed to TMZ by Emilio’s wife, Carol, who revealed that her husband died at his home surrounded by family.
For four decades, Delgado remained on the longtime favorite kids’ tv show Sesame Street where he played the Fix-It Shop owner Luis.
Throughout his long career, the dedicated actor and voice actor also performed in live theater and took part in countless conventions.
As TMZ confirmed, Delgado was diagnosed with Multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer that forms in plasma cells, back in December 2020.
The site also learned that the actor was in hospice care prior to his passing at his home.
Following the saddening news, fans were quick to pay a tribute to the man who brought Luis to life and entertained millions of Sesame Street watchers throughout the years.
“We are heartbroken to report the passing of Emilio Delgado; best known as Luis Rodriguez on Sesame Street, who joined the series in 1971. Thank you for all of the wonderful memories,” a fan page called Muppet History wrote on Twitter.
“As Luis, thank you for holding down the Fix It shop in everyone’s favorite neighborhood. And for a tv wedding a million American kids thought was real. Mr. Emilio Delgado, may your memory be a blessing,” one user added.
“This sucks. RIP Emilio Delgado, aka Luis from Sesame Street. He was a great man, an iconic presence on the show from well before I was born until very recently. The Fix-It Shop is going to feel a lot emptier now,” another expressed.
One fan wrote: “Remembering Emilio Delgado, who played Luis on Sesame Street. Thank you for being a part of my childhood. Rise In Power.”
