A family in Ohio was left heartbroken after their five-year-old son was reportedly found dead at the residence.
According to reports from local media outlets, he died after taking the family gun and accidentally shooting himself in the head, right inside his parents’ bedroom.
The boy was identified as Brooks Thomas Wilson who had a 9 mm handgun located in the back room of his residence on Thursday afternoon. This is when he fired just one shot that led to his instant death in the head, the police have confirmed.
The boy’s parents and one of his siblings were also located in the same residence at the time when the shooting took place but were not present in the same room.
The father explained how he went into the room as soon as heard the loud sound of the gunshot. He started CPR and called for help but it was in vain. He had died at the scene.
Authorities did confirm that they did not suspect any kind of foul play related to the incident and charges against the parents are yet to be pursued.
No details about where the weapon was located and why it was not secured in the home, despite a young child being present are yet to be revealed as loved ones mourn the devasting loss of a loving and smiling child.
