While not much was said about the franchise’s future following the release of the fourth film, Illumination, a creative partner of Dreamworks, now confirmed the fifth movie.

Illumination and Dreamworks are currently working together on Shrek 5 as well as The Super Mario Bros Movie.

Illumination CEO and founder Chris Meledandri also spoke to Variety to confirm plans to get the original cast back for the upcoming film.

“We anticipate the cast coming back,” the executive said as he revealed they were in talks with Mike Myers, who voiced Shrek, Cameron Diaz, who voiced Fiona, and Eddie Murphy, who gave voice to the one and only Donkey.

“Talks are starting now, and every indication that we’ve gotten is there’s tremendous enthusiasm on behalf of the actors to return.”

The good news comes shortly after Eddie Murphy called for a Donkey spin-off saying Puss in Boots is nowhere near as funny as Donkey.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, a Shrek spin-off, has already earned nearly half a billion dollars after featuring Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek in main roles.

“If [DreamWorks] ever came with another Shrek. I’d do it in two seconds,” Murphy said back in January.

“They did Puss In Boots movies. I was like, ‘They should have done a Donkey movie.’ Donkey is funnier than Puss in Boots. I mean, I love Puss in Boots, but he ain’t funny as the Donkey.”
