Mourners were seen flocking to be by the Pope’s side and pay their final respects.
However, it didn’t take too long for the matter to turn into a matter of mayhem with the security stepping in to curb the growing number of people who refused to follow protocol and take smiling selfies with the Pope lying in state.
The Vatican blasted those who found the behavior amusing, lashing out at them, with strict measures in place with security to stop the matter from happening again.
Francis’ body has been carried into Saint Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City for the three-day ritual.
Nearly 50,000 people were seen paying their respects before his funeral is said to take place tomorrow. But many individuals, including a priest, were found guilty of the act, with some questioning if that was appropriate.
‘Is this a photo op or a moment of public mourning?’- asked one person, and another chimed in to voice their anger on the situation.
On Instagram, one picture had a female smiling into the camera as she displayed the Pope clutching his rosary around 10 feet behind her.
His body was dressed in a white and red robe that symbolized his holy love, and he lay on a raised coffin platform.
