The famous thumbs-up emoji has been in the spotlight a lot recently because Gez Z members feel it’s high time it was banned because of its offensive meaning.
And many just couldn’t understand what the real reason behind such behavior was in the first place. If you happen to be a part of the bunch, well, here’s some more news on why people are really taking offense.
This comes through the likes of 32-year-old Keith Broni who is the editor-in-chief for the emojipedia and also the expert in terms of everything related to the world of emojis commonly used on social media.
He explained how Gen Z is now looking at things in a different light as compared to before. Moreover, they’re viewing the new symbol as a thumbs-up way to shun it because there’s one real reason why it’s offensive or can be considered to be that way.
“It’s high time people understand that you can not simply send a thumbs-up to anyone and everyone on your list. It’s highly rude and needs to stop. People are taking offense and there is reasoning attached to it”- he added.
Most social media users that use this particular emoji fail to understand the passive-aggressive context behind it. And that’s why they’re least bothered. The younger lot on the other hand does understand why it’s rude and shouldn’t be used.
In case you were not already aware, this emoji makes the list of the top ten emojis that are used only by older people. And the thumbs-up list was accompanied by nine others.
There was the monkey face hiding emoji, the crying emoji, the lips emoji, the tick emoji, the poop emoji, and a few more.
