It was a period of absolute embarrassment for the EU when their much anticipated and costly metaverse event turned out to be a huge disaster.
The EU commission miserably failed to be ‘down with the kids as out of the massive list of attendees that were supposed to arrive, only six came forward.
The event was hosted by the commission’s foreign aid department which threw the virtual gala during the later hours of Tuesday night. But this is definitely not what they were expecting in terms of a turn-up by miles.
A staggering sum of money worth nearly $400,000 was spent through the developing metaverse platform. This was in an attempt to attract young people but out of those, only six showed up.
As mentioned by critics covering the event, it was a huge flop, and those that did show up called it out as a bemused chat conducted with five other humans that joined for a brief time but opted to leave soon.
A short clip from the event had been shared that comprised a few tiny multi-colored avatars in paperclip shapes. they were seen dancing around on a tropical beach.
In case you were not already aware, the metaverse is a space that is a part of a huge expensive plan that’s designed to promote the EU commission’s mega Global Gateway initiative.
The aim is to spend $300 billion by the year 2027 and that’s where they can be seen building more infrastructure for developing countries too,
The official trailer for this endeavor was first seen being dropped on their social media page during the middle of October.
At that time, the anticipation was high but after seeing the turnout of this, well, it appears that there was more hype than what the real turn out came out to be. Do you agree?
