A huge missile attack was recently conducted on a US army base in Iraq during the early hours of Sunday.
According to local media reports, 12 ballistic missiles smashed into Erbil as sources claim they were fired from Iran.
Thankfully, there were no victims or casualties due to the attack as revealed by the Kurdish Health minister recently. Moreover, the news was recently confirmed by Governor Omed Khoshnaw, who condemned the attack.
The Governor went on to mention how it’s still not clear whether the missiles shot were targeting the American consulate that was present at the site or not as investigations into the alarming situation continue to occur.
Other reports went on to suggest how the attack appeared like it was designed to attack the city’s airport that was located nearby.
American officials were quick to confirm and condemn the attack, referring to the incident as an outrageous act.
Last year in December, the US Marine’s General Frank McKenzie stated how there was a possibility of such attacks to occur in the near future, explained reports.
While no further details about the incident were currently made available to the public, several videos showcasing the incident were posted online. They showed a number of Iranian-produced missiles slamming into the base in Erbil, which is a city present in the northern part of the country.
The country’s Shi’ite Muslim cleric revealed through his Twitter account, “Erbil is under fire… as if Kurds were not Iraqis.”
Experts claim that the attack comes at a time when there was a brief pause in the city of Vienna regarding a shattered Tehran nuclear deal, following the Ukrainian invasion by Russia.
The news of rockets smashing into a US base is definitely being looked at with great concern in America as tensions are already running high with the current conflict in Ukraine.
