Actor Will Smith has reportedly spoken out after being banned by the Academy for ten years.
Local reports from media outlets claim the actor will not be allowed to enter the Oscars for an entire decade after he chose to behave in a violent manner during the show’s live broadcast recently.
During the event, the star caused a major uproar and controversy when he opted to slap comedian Chris Rock. The latter was called out by the celeb for making fun of his wife’s shaved head and that’s why he stormed on stage and carried out the violent gesture.
The incident left Chris Rock, the Hollywood fraternity, and fans from around the world in absolute shock as many called the actor out for his ridiculously violent and uncalled-for behavior.
Despite apologizing for his behavior the next day via a scripted note, the star knew that he was in deep trouble as the academy was finding it hard to take an immediate decision on the matter and that’s why the case was delayed until further notice.
Producers of the show spoke about how the behavior was unjustified and how the Academy had requested the star to leave but he didn’t. Moreover, cops were also put on standby to arrest the celeb, but Chris Rock refused to press any charges or complaints on the matter.
Yesterday, the Academy announced its final verdict on the matter and how the actor would not be allowed to attend the Oscars for a decade. And within minutes, Will Smith responded to the bombshell dropped by the Academy of Motion Arts and Pictures with a message that acknowledged their decision, where the star stated that he accepted and respected the verdict.
“For a period of ten years, the board has decided how actor Will Smith won’t be allowed to attend any of the events hosted by the Academy in person or virtually. We would also like to express our great gratitude to Chris Rock for staying calm and composed despite the extraordinary circumstances”- the statement continued.
