Ukraine’s top soccer player Andriy Shevchenko is raising his voice on the horrors of war that are currently causing turmoil in his home country.
The renowned sportsman shed light on how innocent civilians were being targeted and killed on a daily basis and that’s not something that should be dealt with silently.
“Yes, I am a famous sportsman. Now, however, my job is to stop the killing of so many innocent children”- he explained.
The celeb is renowned for scoring the most goals in Ukraine’s history.
Moreover, he recently spoke for an interview where he revealed how difficult it was for him to see the horrors of the war striking his nation.
He was very emotional when he spoke, clearly showing his patriotism for his people.
The former Chelsea strike says that it’s high time people began to speak about the issue. “It about fighting for peace and we need you to do something of that sort”- he continued.
“I was sleeping and that’s when I suddenly got a call from my mother. She informed me that there was a war taking place. I just couldn’t believe it”- he added.
All of a sudden, the star striker stopped and threw the pen that he was carrying with him, across the table.
“I am so sorry. This is not very easy. I promise you that”- he continued.
While giving his comments on the matter, he also revealed how the war has just begun and so many people were already killed for no reason. He added that they died while defending their nation and that was a huge war crime.
The player’s mother is still in Kyiv and she refuses to leave the nation that she calls home, despite Russian forces tightening the area and trying hard to gain control through hostile military strikes.
