The IOC has just rolled out a new statement where it has confirmed that American gymnast Jordan Chiles will be stripped of her bronze medal.
The IOC chiefs spoke about how the gymnast who hails from Romania, Ana Barbosu would be re-awarded after the sport’s highest court voided the appeal made by Chiles’ coach.
The news has left American fans and chiefs furious as they feel such actions are not aligned with sportsmanship and that reallocated medals in this manner just leaves a wrong impression.
The FIG has opted to remain silent and has spoken about how it would respect the International Olympic Committee’s decision.
The decision came less than a day after the court voided the appeal rolled out by Team USA coach Cecile Landi during the event which put Chiles on the podium.
The gymnast’s sister has slammed the decision and lashed out at the Olympic committee, referring to it as sheer racism. A reallocation ceremony was also planned to give the Romanian gymnast her moment of fame at the expense of Team USA’s gymnasts which many have frowned upon.
