A massive volcano in Alaska was seen steaming from its summit crater, signaling greater signs of unrest.
Scientists were keeping a close eye on Mount Spurr, which is a massive 11k foot tall volcano that sits just 81 miles away from Anchorage. And since the past few months, due to growing signs, it’s said to blow up.
As per the latest update from the AVO in Alaska, scientists didn’t hesitate in sharing images over the weekend that displayed continued steaming from the summit crater.
‘Such steaming is typical for Mount Spurr during this time of unrest,’ the statement went on to read.
AVO also shared how seismicity remained elevated and the earthquake swarms were found beneath Mount Spurr over the past day.
The seismic activity is due to magma rising to the surface, causing serious stress and cracking in the surrounding rock. If it does blow up, the event would be definitely explosive, scientists shared. It would be capable of spewing multiple plumes of ash rising as high as 50,000 feet in the air that could blanket Anchorage, which is home to 300k people.
