One mother is revealing her heartbreak to the world after she reportedly went from her initial diagnosis by doctors of the stomach flu all the way to stage four bowel cancer.
The news has turned this mother’s world upside down but she says she’s trying to make the most of each day and hopes her case can help others who may not be aware of the condition.
The 37-year-old young mother of two beautiful children revealed how she experienced some alarming symptoms and that’s why she ended up at the doctor’s office.
But after her arrival, she was surprised because she was told there was not too much to worry about because it was just the usual stomach bug.
Gemma Farquhar who hails from Sydney mentioned how a few weeks later, she was told that her initial diagnosis was incorrect. Now, she was given the scare of her life after being diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer, which even had her doctors in absolute awe.
“I’m sharing my story with the world to encourage more and more people to become aware of what’s going on. They have no idea how health is the biggest blessing and if you don’t take care of yourself or stay alert of your symptoms, you’re going to be in a horrible situation”- she continued.
For those who aren’t aware, stage four bowel cancer has only a 14% survival rate and that means the situation is pretty bad. Statistics revealed how patients only live for a maximum time of 5 years if they’re lucky.
The mother’s symptoms included vomiting and unexplainable bowel movements. This comprised of a range of visits to the doctor, very similar to a tummy bug or parasite. But after emptying out her gut, everything seemed normal again and hence the mother continued to ignore the symptoms.
Despite having all her surgeries and receiving chemotherapy, her cancer has made its way to her lungs now. And she hopes she can survive longer than the 5-year prediction given for the terminal illness.
