Pope Francis has condemned the Russian attacks in Ukraine and ordered an immediate halt to the ongoing military operation.
The Pope appeared emotional while delivering his message where he concluded his ritual prayer for Sunday each week.
The 85-year-old was bold and quick to refer to the invasion by Russians as an act of barbarism and an absolute massacre as innocent civilians were being killed for no reason.
“It needs to be stopped, I beg you stop this massacre”- the Pope added.
The Pope strongly felt that the actions being portrayed by Russia were nothing less than absolute barbarism as Putin continues to attack civilian targets without any strategic reason.
Moreover, the Pope also said that it was an inexcusable crime to bomb children’s hospitals in a war-torn country where people were lucky to make it out alive.
“I am begging for an end to the war”- the Pope continued while addressing the Vatican.
The Pope spoke to a large crowd of people that gathered at the St. Peter’s square in the morning. “In the name of God, let the cry of the suffering people be heard, and let the bombings and attacks stop”- he further revealed.
The Catholic Church’s head also prayed for the city of Mariupol which had been the recent target of Russians as they carried on with their military strikes.
According to the latest statistics, at least 1500 people have died in that besieged city where the city’s deputy mayor referred to it as a location that was beyond destroyed.
Moreover, thousands of the citizens still living there complained of no food, water, or even electricity for days.
The Pope stated that it was necessary to put an end to the military invasion before the cities were turned into cemeteries.
