Japan is facing a scary rise in bird flu incidents after the government authorities confirmed the outbreak at a leading poultry farm in the northern Iwate region.
This is the 19th outbreak of the very pathogenic avian influenza in the nation this season as per reports from the agriculture ministry.
As a whole, there is 1.7 million birds that were culled since the start of the season in 11 prefectures as reported by the government’s leading news agency Jiji press.
A new report is indicating how another 50,000 chickens were culled in fear of the outbreak spreading at an alarming rate.
The latest outbreak was confirmed on Sunday after the farm shared reports about a high surge in bird deaths. Moreover, genetic tests did identify the virus as the leading cause of the incident which led to an immediate order for containment measures.
The officials have confirmed that movement restrictions were imposed on nearly 170k birds across two nearby farms within a 3km radius of the affected area.
Furthermore, another 10km surveillance zone was established that restricted the transport of nearly 3.8M birds in the vicinity.
