A massive magnitude earthquake has struck Thailand and Myanmar, with a state of emergency being declared.

The fears for mass casualties are on the rise after tremors shook high-rise buildings and destroyed complete apartment blocks.

The American Geological Survey and Germany’s GFZ center for geosciences explained how the quake struck at a shallow 6.2 miles below the surface before the second quake, which arose at a magnitude of 6.4, took place 12 minutes later.

The force of the tremors was so huge that it caused a mosque to collapse with nearly 10 worshippers being killed in the city of Mandalay.

Officials at a major hospital in Myanmar’s capital also declared a mass casualty area with the death toll in the country expected to increase further after buildings were seen getting toppled and debris was sent flying in all directions.

Large parts of Thailand also felt the massive quake, with a state of emergency being declared in the country’s capital city of Bangkok.

This is home to nearly 17 million people, most of them living in high-rise apartments.

A shocking video showed the moment when the workers were seen fleeing the building under construction as it collapsed while being shaken forcefully by the massive quake. So far, three people have been killed, with fears of the death toll rising further, despite dozens being rescued from under the rubble of the skyscraper.
