This year’s Super Bowl may be over but viewers can’t stop themselves from roasting organizers for choosing old and throwback performers for the star-studded half-time show.
Viewers were quick to discuss and rant on Twitter about how the Super Bowl LVI only chose to feature musicians over the age of 30.
A number of the biggest names from the hip hop industry were selected for this year’s line up including Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Eminem, 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar. Moreover, some viewers were also bold enough to point out how the total age of the performers combined was coming out to be a staggering 286.
But this is certainly not the first time that something like this has taken place as viewers noted that the trend continues from the past where throwback performers were taken on board in more cases than not with the only one breaking that mold was Bruno Mars in 2014 who happened to be 28 at that time.
As a whole, this year’s leading performers had a total combined wealth of nearly one billion dollars, with Dr. Dre leading the pack, thanks to his breakthrough Beats headphones.
It’s no surprise that the show was a major success for obvious reasons but many couldn’t help themselves from mocking the old performers who appeared to be catering more to the older crowd than the new generation.
One writer tweeted: “Everybody that’s born between the years 1985 and 1995 had their eyes glued on the screen during the Super Bowl halftime show lineup and called it so sweet, instead of the event doing one for young people”.
Another commenter wrote how he felt so old to have enjoyed the Super Bowl halftime show to the fullest, thanks to the throwback performers included.
