A schoolteacher reportedly isolated herself in a plane’s restroom for nearly 5 hours after testing positive for COVID-19.
According to local media reports, Marisa Fotieo started to feel sick on her flight that was scheduled from Chicago to Reykjavik in Iceland.
The teacher revealed how she opted to take the rapid COVID test mid-air which came positive, despite her giving a negative pre-departure test to officials at the airport so she could travel.
After seeing her results, the teacher was forced to self-isolate. And that’s when she had no other choice but to go inside the plane’s toilet for five whole hours.
Moreover, she even chose to document her event via TikTok, adding a unique twist to the ordeal.
The teacher revealed how there were around 15o other passengers on board her flight and her biggest fear was getting those individuals infected, she revealed during an interview with NBC’s Today Show.
“I had to spend five of my six-hour journey inside a tiny bathroom,” the teacher added.
The story which was posted on her TikTok account has gone viral with more than 4 million views in no time. This included an entire clip of when she found out that she was positive for the infection.
“In two seconds, I got two lines and that meant I was positive for the infection,” she revealed.
Upon arrival at the destination, she was taken off of the plane and straight into a 10-day long mandatory quarantine at a hotel that was kept for those infected with the virus.
But Fotieo says that her overall experience was not too bad as one crew member named Eiriksdottir was nice enough to bring her both food and water while she remained in an isolated position inside the restroom.
The crew member tried to keep in touch throughout the journey, making sure she was not left alone, and that made her flight a little less miserable in the end.
