Leading iPhone maker, Apple is being charged a hefty fine for failing to sell iPhones with a charger.
According to reports from local media outlets, the Cupertino company is now being ordered to fight a lawsuit that fines the company $19 million for not paying attention to Brazil’s demands of sending out iPhones with chargers.
This is the second time that such a warning was provided to the company by the South American nation but it appears that they’re not taking it seriously until and unless the huge fine was outlined.
The lawsuit says that Apple is taking advantage of its leading position in the phone market and has decided to abuse customers by selling its products at exuberant prices and not adding the essential accessory.
Now, the country’s officials have called out the firm for this behavior that they claim to be outrageous. And hence, ordered them to pay the fine as a form of punishment for such actions taking place in the country.
But Apple has previously spoken about what the real reason behind the matter of not providing chargers for phones. According to them, it’s going to pollute the environment and increase the already staggering carbon footprint. But the justification has fallen on deaf ears as Brazil is not in the favor of paying attention to what they have to say anymore and has reportedly dragged them to court.
Apple was recently seen informing Reuters about how it planned to appeal against the decision. And that’s because they feel it’s just not ok.
“We’re being punished for reducing carbon emissions by not including any chargers inside our phone kits”- the company says.
