A young teenager from the state of Tennessee was gunned down by mistake, as reported by local media outlets.
The harrowing incident arose in Franklin where a young teen by the name of Lily Basil had just celebrated her high school graduation. But who knew that the joy would be short-lived for her and her loved ones?
She was shot and killed accidentally when an 18-year-old suspect by the name of Matthew Roufail ended up admitting that he shot her by mistake, assuming his rifle did not feature any rounds.
The suspect has now been charged with criminal homicide while his bond was set up by the authorities as $150k.
Explaining the matter in detail to the police, he began by mentioning how he made use of a caliber rifle during the later hours of Saturday night but it was never intentional.
The weapon was reportedly retrieved from his vehicle’s trunk where he and the victim had gathered. Right after the shooting, she was rushed to a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds to her right shoulder.
But upon arrival at the medical center, she was pronounced dead, leaving loved ones and friends in shock and grief over the unexpected news.
