A mom who broke her own daughter’s nose has been ordered to pay $670 in damages after they ensued over a televised boxing fight.
Theresa Carroll, 39, grabbed Chantelle Carroll, 19, by the hair and punched her in the face after she had objected to her having friends around to watch a boxing match involving British boxer Anthony Joshua last December.
The said incident happened on December 12, after Theresa invited her friends to watch heavyweight champion Joshua defeat Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev by a knockout to defend his IBF, WBA, and WBO belts.
But Chantelle is working all day at the hotel and was said to be angry as she wanted the “house to herself.”
During the said fight the family had to abide by Covid Tier 2 restriction in the village of Bollington, Cheshire. Her mom rang the police to claim her daughter was being aggressive only for her daughter to grab the handset from her.
Chantelle was pulled to the floor and left with a broken nose and began to film her mom shouting on here saying: “Get out of my hose” before retorting: “Smile for the camera” and adding: “I don’t want to see you again!”
Peter Casson, the defense lawyer said: ”She had picked her daughter up from work and there soon became an issue. The daughter became very aggressive, said she had been working all day and wanted the house to herself. That was a catalyst to what took place.”
He also added that “the red mist came over” Theresa in the moments before the attack, adding: “She regrets it and is mortified that she found herself in that position.”
Chantelle who is currently studying sports science at Nottingham Trent University was later treated for her broken nose at A&E in Macclesfield General Hospital. Appearing at Stockport Magistrates Court, Theresa admitted common assault and was ordered to pay $670 in damages.
Chantelle and Theresa are not speaking to each other since the attack last year. Theresa, a mother of 3, who admitted common assault, tried to reach out to her daughter urging her to reconcile saying she still had her Christmas presents to give from last year’s Holiday.
With the restraining order on her mother, Theresa is banned from seeing or contacting her daughter for a year.
Casson told the court: “She would just like the relationship with her daughter to resume. She wants to have her home for Christmas. She has presents to give her from last Christmas, her birthday and for this Christmas. But unfortunately, it seems this is not going to happen. She is still the mother to that young girl. She still cares about her daughter.”
“She did not want to put her daughter through a trial so pleaded guilty but her daughter does not want any more contact with her. She wants to put this behind her and move on with her own life. She says her daughter is welcome whenever she wants to come back. This is a one-off incident,” he added.
Theresa was also ordered to complete a 12-community order and was ordered to complete 120 hours of unpaid work plus 20 rehabilitation activity requirements. She will also have to pay $240 in costs and surcharges.
JP Dominic Stone told Theresa: “You were provoked and we do not believe this was premeditated. You have also now lost your good character and you have shown remorse. However, this was not your finest hour. Regardless of what went on before, you broke your daughter’s nose.”
