A TikToker has managed to raise nearly $186,000 so one elderly Walmart employee could retire.
82-year-old Nola Carpenter has been working hard so she could earn a living. But seeing her work relentlessly, day and night, to pay off her mortgage broke 19-year-old Devan Bonagura’s heart and that’s when he opted to make a difference in her life.
He did this by raising a staggering amount of money for the elderly’s retirement and it all worked out so well for her in the end.
Taking to his TikTok account on social media, the teen shared his story and all the efforts he went through to make this dream of his a reality and he couldn’t be more proud of himself.
The employee used to work as a carpenter at Walmart and it was just so heartbreaking to see her put in so much effort and not get too much in return. Hence, he thought it was time he steps and give her a helping hand.
Hence, his video got nearly 30 million views and that’s when he thought it would be right to set up a GoFundMe account in her name so people could donate.
The response he get was so amazing and plenty of people continued to donate as they felt a woman her age really needed to retire and enjoy her life, instead of worrying about mortgage claims.
He even shared how the process was definitely not an easy one. The store’s manager argued with him and wanted him to take down the post.
They informed him about how the store was receiving threats and that he needed to remove the post and the account. But this young man was not willing to back down.
He spoke back to his employer and was even suspended. But he claims that it was all worth it because she got the money that she deserved and can now retire in peace after the holidays.
