At least two people have lost their lives while another one was left critically injured after a tire explosion at the Atlanta Airport.
According to reports from local media outlets, the tire exploded while it was being changed at the Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
The Delta employee and contractor were reportedly killed at the scene while a third person is believed to have suffered critical injuries, and was rushed to a nearby hospital by paramedics.
The incident occurred in the airport’s maintenance area just after 5 am on Tuesday.
Delta TechOps was responsible for the maintenance of the Delta fleet and Atlanta is the airline’s main headquarters. This means more than 200 different routes are serviced from all over the globe.
It’s believed that a Boeing 757 arrived in Atlanta from Las Vegas on Sunday night as reported by WSB-TV.
The flight radar tracking data spoke about how the plane completed four short-haul trips between Tampa, Atlanta, and Las Vegas.
The incident happened just months after another Delta Boeing aircraft lost its nose wheel while trying to take off from the same airport.
