Shocking revelations about the doomed Titanic sub operated by OceanGate have emerged as search teams race against time to find and rescue Titan’s crew.
As the search for the missing submersible continues, it has been revealed that the five members of the crew now have just hours’ worth of reserves left before they run out of oxygen.
Meanwhile, disturbing revelations about the equipment used in Titan emerged.
According to the reports, OceanGate has navigated the doomed sub using a $29.99 modified Logitech G F710 Wireless Gamepad despite the gaming controller’s many negative reviews related to the device’s regular connection issues.
The said controller was first released in 2010 and runs on standard AA batteries and is considered an affordable choice among gamers. It is allegedly only compatible with older versions of operating systems.
While the controller has a rating of 4.2 out of 5 on Amazon, hundreds of reviewers left negative comments mostly concerning the device’s connectivity issues.
“The controller constantly lose connection with the dongle so you’ll be dying a lot in your game. Logitech used to make really good controllers but now they’re just total trash,” someone wrote.
“Don’t believe the reviews from the ‘people’ who ‘love’ this controller, they’re likely fake because anyone who has actually used this controller would hate it,” another said.
Earlier this year, OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, who is among the five members of the crew trapped 12,000 feet underwater, bragged about using the cheap controller to run expeditions to Titanic.
“We run the whole thing with this game controller,” he told David Pogue of CBS Sunday Morning.
Responding, Pogue ran his face into his hands before saying: “It seems like this submersible has some elements of MacGyvery jerry-rigged-ness. You are putting construction pipes as ballast [a reference to old construction materials being used as ballast on Titan].”
