The giant cargo ship that smashed into the mega Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore overnight was said to have been piloted by a specialized team.
Sources from local media outlets claim all members were specially trained to avoid obstacles at ports but now the question remains as to why the catastrophe arose in the first place.
The ship whose weight was 100K tons and 948ft long was called DALI and was believed to be operated by a Singaporean firm named Synergy. It smashed into the bridge after deporting the Baltimore Port.
While none of the 22 crew members on board were injured, a huge section of the bridge was seen crumbling down to the ground after the strike, despite being steered by specialist pilots.
The pilots did speak about how they were trained to move such ships in and out of ports with ease and that it was a routine task. But the question remains as to why the incident arose.
Officials were quick to rule out terrorism and intentional acts to cause damage.
Meanwhile, another cybersecurity report spoke about the vehicle undergoing power failure before ramming into the bridge. Some reports even hinted at the vessel losing propulsion while leaving the port, raising more questions as to what exactly went wrong.
The ship did notify the MDOT about this and that a possible collision could arise. But why more action was not taken to avoid the consequences that resulted is still casting doubts on what happened.
