Tristan Thompson has filed the required paperwork to become his younger brother’s sole guardian after their mother’s passing.
The 32-year-old basketball star now officially requested guardianship for his 17-year-old brother, Amari, who was diagnosed with a number of medical conditions including epilepsy.
The necessary documents were already filed in court, whereas the move comes nine months after the siblings’ mom, Andrea, died from a heart attack at just 53. The brothers’ father, Trevor, is reportedly not present in their lives.
Besides taking care of his younger sibling, Thompson is also set to protect his assets including the $103k the teen is getting as a result of his mother’s premature death.
Earlier this year, Tristan’s ex, Khloe Kardashian, revealed that both the basketballer and his brother moved in with her after his LA house needed to undergo emergency repairs.
“Tristan has a house he’s doing construction on and he’s been renovating. He was able to live there during renovations, but we had crazy weather for California, like extreme rain, and Tristan’s roof caved in on his home and caused flooding. So Tristan and Amari are staying at my house right now, until his home gets fixed,” Khloe revealed while insisting she and Tristan were not romantically involved.
She added: “Tristan and I are not back together. I know it’s hard for everyone to believe, but I love love love Andrea and I love Tristan, I love Amari, and this is what family does.
“Tristan is the father of my kids, you know. I’ve lost my dad, and my dad was like a fairy tale parent, but still I can’t wrap my head around losing my mom, and I know how close Tristan and his mom are, and it’s just heartbreaking, and to be left with the responsibility of another person as well, it’s a lot.”
