The State Department has turned down a special request to supply the city of Tijuana with water after getting impacted by drought.
This is the first time that we’ve heard about such news where a US President has barred Mexico for water, alleging shortfalls in the country.

Trump says that the call for help is against the treaty it had signed in 1944 for sharing water. This governed water allocation from the Rio Grande and Colorado Rivers and has now come under intense strain thanks to the climate crisis.
The treaty always sets five-year cycles for water deliveries and the latest was set to end in October of 2025.

Since Mexico has fallen behind in terms of its water payments, Trump has restricted any kind of agreement for water.
US farmers and lawmakers have complained that the neighboring nation has waited until the end of every cycle in the past and has come up short in the latest period.
Mexico’s president says they are hopeful for a better and more positive outcome to this than a mere rejection.
But the way things are going with Trump and the migrant crisis involving the Southern border, many experts don’t see a positive solution anytime soon.
