Actor Ben Affleck was recently seen discussing parenting goals, strategies, and how important it is for a child to have two parents while growing up.
Without a doubt, the philosophy coming from the Hollywood star was sure to raise plenty of eyebrows. After all, many felt that he was in no right position to give parenting advice.
At the moment, the actor is busy promoting his upcoming film, titled “The Tender Bar,” and that’s when he took out a few minutes to argue about how important it is for two parents to raise their child successfully.
“When it comes to the rearing and upbringing of a child, it’s crucial to have two parents for their success,” the 49-year-old boldly claimed while speaking for WSJ magazine’s feature for the upcoming January issue.
But in addition to that, the star shed light on what he felt was the most important thing for him. “For me, it has to do with being a great father. Boys need to be taught,” he went on to explain.
Affleck is a father to his 9-year-old son named Samuel who he shares with actress and ex-wife Jennifer Garner.
“It’s all about how to behave and conduct yourself. In addition, you need to be clear on what your values should be. My father did a good job in that area and these things are very meaningful for me,” he explained. But that doesn’t mean he misses out on the things or ways where his father was absent too.
The star’s comments will likely spark backlash as many single parents, including those that are widows, widowers, and others that happen to be raising their own kids alone, would feel offended, explained critics.
“You always need a dad for your positive reinforcement and I got that from my father. But I missed it a lot when he wasn’t there by my side. I got a chance to see both sides, growing up with and without my dad,” he continued.
