Victoria’s Secret is turning heads after announcing the inclusion of its first model with Down’s Syndrome for its latest collection.
The brand made history with the revolutionary decision to include Sofia Jirau who is Victoria’s Secret special model and will be featured as a lead in their upcoming campaign that celebrates women empowerment and diversity to the fullest.
This decision taken by the brand was announced on Thursday and resulted in so many people applauding and congratulating them on the milestone decision.
The new collection is titled “The Love Cloud” and is said to feature a whopping 18 women who arise from a myriad of different and unique backgrounds, putting the diversity of the finest kind on display.
Sofia could be seen celebrating this huge and amazing accomplishment via her Instagram account on social media as she put up a post that included her first-ever debut picture by Victoria’s Secret.
Sofia captioned her post with a heart-warming message that stole so many people’s hearts in an instant. It stated: One day I dreamed of it, I worked on it, and today it is a dream come true. I am so happy that I can finally tell you one of my biggest secrets”- she stated.
“I am the first Victoria’s Secret model with Down Syndrome”- the young starlet continued.
Sofia also mentioned in her breakthrough caption how there are no limits in life and that she was so fricken proud of someone that she’s never met at this moment.
It should be noted that Victoria’s Secret has never been called out for being diverse, especially when it came down to its popular model line-up. In fact, the brand has been criticized in the past for including only size zero models for its campaigns and fashion shows.
Despite being a little behind all others in terms of diversity and inclusion, this landmark decision is sure to put them in good books for a long time. Do you agree?
