The final moments of the Dali ship before it struck the iconic Baltimore Bridge in Maryland are now being revealed.
According to reports from local media outlets, the crew members on board the container dubbed Dali tried to warn officials that they had lost complete control of the vessel.
They also spoke about how the vessel was about to collide with the bridge, moments before it collapsed down to the water below.
The pilots were said to be specially trained to overcome obstacles with ports and they are believed to have done everything in their power to prevent it from ramming into the support beam, causing the bridge to fall below into the water.
It is believed that the ship lost propulsion as soon as it left the port and was making its way ahead. The most likely cause has been outlined to be a power failure of the system as shown by the CCTV footage where the lights went out as the vessel got near the bridge.
“The vessel notified the MDOT that the collision was possible and more needed to be done on this matter”- the unclassified report has gone on to add. Soon after that, the ship caught on fire, and thick plumes of black smoke started to emit from it.
