Despite a month passing after the tragic death of actor Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa, their bodies remain unclaimed.
The shocking discovery of their deaths was made at their mansion in Santa Fe, where the couple lived alone in Mexico.
It’s believed that the 65-year-old pianist Betsy died from contracting hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, which is a rare respiratory condition caused by rats and mice.
Since she was the sole caretaker for her elderly husband, who was said to be suffering from dementia, it’s very much possible that he had no clue that she died, leading to his own death.

Police found unread emails from Betsy’s account, who was found dead with the couple’s dog nearby.
The deaths were not reported until February 26. Meanwhile, Hackman’s pacemaker recorded his final activity from February 18th.
Two of the couple’s dogs were found alive at the property. The remains of the individuals were shortly transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner in New Mexico.
As per documents shared on the file, they’ve still remained unclaimed for over 30 days. The office reportedly issued a weekly list of unclaimed descendants every Monday, and it was said to see that their names were on that list. This was a hint about how no one stepped forward from their families to claim the remains.
