Will Smith has come under fire and is facing calls to lose his Best Actor Oscar after slapping Academy Awards presenter Chris Rock in the face.

While it is clear that the 53-year-old legendary actor clearly reacted with fury when Rock made a joke about his wife’s baldness caused by alopecia, much of the Sunday night’s drama has been left to speculation.

Now, however, it has come to light that the star of ‘I am Legend’ may have already provided the answers to our questions months before his on-air assault.

In his memoir, which was published in November, Smith opened up about his tough childhood and revealed that seeing his mother getting beaten by his father “defined who I am today more than any other moment.”

The actor also revealed that his “most violent trigger” was being made to feel like a coward because of the times he failed to intervene and defend his mother during the beatings – a confession that could explain why he reacted to Chris Rock’s joke about Jada Pinkett with violence.

“I saw her spit blood. That moment, in that bedroom, probably more than any other moment, has defined who I am today,” Smith wrote in his memoir.

“Within everything I have done since then – the award and accolades, the spotlights and the attention, the characters and the laughs, there has been a subtle string of apologies to my mother for my inaction that day.

Whatever reasons he may have had for acting out, Smith is now facing great scrutiny and faces losing his Oscar and getting a lifetime ban from the Academy Awards.
