The Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex stood united in a final act of love to honor their grandmother, the Queen, inside the Westminster Hall where the late monarch will lie-in-state until the funeral on Monday.
King Charles had asked all of the late monarch’s grandchildren to come together before all the mourners say their final farewell to the Queen.
Wearing Blues and Royals No1 uniform, Prince William bowed his head along with Prince Harry, who was given permission to wear his Blues and Royals No1 uniform as a ‘mark of respect for the Queen.’
Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Zara Tindall, Peter Phillips, Lady Louise and James followed and made their way to the catafalque in the middle of the building.
They stood in silence for the solemn vigil in the Queen’s honor.
After the 15-minute vigil, the eight grandchildren walked down the steps and returned to the staircase.
Zara’s right shoe came off her foot while making her way back up the stair case. She and Lady Louise shared a smile as she reached down for her shoe.
Harry was seen linking his left arm with Zara’s right arm as they followed William. Peter Philips returned to his car with Lady Louise and Princess Beatrice.
Her Majesty’s eight grandchildren held a deep respect and admiration for their beloved grandmother.
William once said: “She may be my grandmother, but she is also very much the boss.”
Harry called his ‘granny’ a ‘guiding compass’ as he celebrated her ‘everlasting legacy.’ He also said that the Queen will be missed around the globe.
The Prince of Wales said in a statement last Saturday: “She was by my side at my happiest moments. And she was by my side during the saddest days of my life. I knew this day would come, but it will be some time before the reality of life without Grannie will truly feel real.
“I thank her for the kindness she showed my family and me. And I thank her on behalf of my generation for providing an example of service and dignity in public life that was from a different age, but always relevant to us all.
“My grandmother famously said that grief was the price we pay for love. All of the sadness we will feel in the coming weeks will be testament to the love we felt for our extraordinary Queen.”
