A young woman was offered a measly $1,800 by an airline as compensation for her lost dog.
Paula Rodriguez was flying from the Dominican Republic to San Francisco for a two-week vacation with her dog Maia when she ran into legal trouble at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport.
During her layover at the Georgia airport, the woman was told that her tourist visa “didn’t meet requirements” and she was placed in a detention center overnight.
According to the reports, border control canceled Paula’s tourist visa before telling her she had to stay in the detention center until her return flight on the following day.
Despite problems of her own, Rodriguez only worried about her dog who was not brought back to her during her stay at the detention center.
While the young lady was reassured that they would be reunited upon her return to the Dominican Republic, she was in for a saddening surprise when she arrived back in her country only for her pooch nowhere to be found.
“I started asking questions about where she’d be spending the night, and told him that she’d been in a lot of distress on the flight,” Paula said as she recalled her horrible experience at the hands of the border control.
She went on to say that her beloved dog was not at the airport or any of the local shelters by the time she returned to her country.
“She’s been missing for more than 72 hours in the biggest airport in the United States,” Rodriguez added.
While Mia is still missing, Delta Airlines allegedly reached out to the shaken traveler and offered her $1,800 as compensation – an offer that the woman’s attorney branded as an “insult.”
Meanwhile, Paula took matters into her own hands as she offered a $1,000 reward to anyone who finds Maia. She also urged people traveling via the Atlanta airport to stay on the lookout for the missing animal.
