A 20-year-old woman with ‘terrible temper’ has been arrested after she burned down a former hospital for children.
Evelyn Alvino from Pinellas Park, Florida, even took a selfie in front of the ruins in May 2020.
18 months after she caused more than $3.5 million worth of damages, Alvino was arrested and extradited to New Jersey to face criminal mischief, burglary, criminal trespassing, and arson charges.
According to reports, she burned the building after she broke up with her boyfriend.
Firefighters from over 11 firehouses rushed to the scene to put out the fire, which they feared would spread to a nearby park and wooded area.
During the investigation, many photos emerged of the 20-year-old trespassing and spraying graffiti on the building before she used an accelerator to torch it down.
The blaze caused over $3.5 million worth of damage to The Arthur Brisbane Child Treatment Care. The building had been abandoned for more than ten years when Alvino set it on fire.
Detectives said that the structures in the vicinity had been burglarized before Alvino burned it down.
Investigators also said that the photo she shared on Instagram after the blaze showed that many others joined her in trespassing the area.
“They advised that (Alvino) asked to go to the Brisbane Center to ‘destroy the building,” the affidavit said, according to NJ.com. “(They) posted several pictures of themselves trespassing and spraying graffiti on the Brisbane Center, placing themselves directly on the premises.”
