An elderly woman was left heartbroken after being forgotten at the airport for 14 hours by airline staff.
85-year-old Patty Bough was stranded at Orlando International Airport for more than half a day after she was allegedly left alone outside Gate 10 by Frontier Airlines staff.
According to Patty’s family, the grandmother was left in her wheelchair and she missed her flight after the employees failed to pick her up and help her board the plane.
“It was a bad, bad, bad day today,” the elderly cancer sufferer said in an interview with FOX 35 after being stuck at the airport for nearly a day.
While the grandma waited to be assisted and taken to her plane, Frontier Airlines insisted they didn’t get any requests to provide special assistance to the elderly passenger.
“It just turned into a total nightmare. So now she is sitting at the airport from 8:30 this morning till 10:30 tonight, and then she’s flying into an airport that’s two hours away from me and getting in at 1 o’clock in the morning,” Susie Mages, Bough’s daughter, added.
The 85-year-old’s story came to light after paramedics were called to the airport to tend to the woman who suffered a panic attack as a result of the stress and delays caused by the presumed misunderstanding.
While the paramedics wanted to take the woman to the hospital, she refused to leave the airport and demanded to be put on another flight that same day.
“I don’t know how I’ve done it. They told me they couldn’t give me another flight until Sunday and I said ‘I’m not staying here all that time,’” Bough recalled.
It is believed the elderly lady has already been reunited with her family since the incident.
After Bough’s story went viral, Frontier Airlines insisted they didn’t get a special assistance request from the 85-year-old.
“Unfortunately, our service provider did not receive a wheelchair assistance request for Ms. Bough. Request should be made in advance. We regret this resulted in a travel disruption,” a spokesperson said.
In response, however, Bough’s family shared confirmation showing that special assistance was indeed requested for Patty ahead of her flight.
