A wrestler from India was given a cruel blow ahead of the upcoming Olympics final where she was told to pack up and return home after getting disqualified.
According to reports from local media outlets, Vinesh Phogat had her eyes on the final prize, the gold medal. However, due to being 150 grams above her weight limit, she just couldn’t be allowed to compete.
Now, the latest on this front is speaking about how she is in the hospital after going through an agonizing couple of days.
The wrestler was taking part in the 50kg freestyle event and made history. She is the first woman of her nation to reach this stage of the round at the Olympics.
Phogat squared off against Sarah Hilderbrandt of the US but couldn’t be given the green signal. The fact that she was eliminated by the barest of margins stunned people.
Her team of coaches did everything to try and ensure she made the benchmark to qualify. They drew blood from her body and made her take part in sauna sessions and rigorous workouts.
All of these extreme measures didn’t cause her to lose the 150 g weight but did end up taking a serious toll on her health, both physically and mentally.
