A 24-year-old NHS nurse has died just hours after giving birth on the day that was supposed to be her 11th anniversary as a couple with her fiancé.
Shannon Napier gave birth to a baby girl and died just hours after giving birth, leaving behind her fiancé Jordan Burt and their newborn daughter.
Her grieving fiancé Jordan, from Kirkcaldy, Fife, has paid a heartbreaking tribute to Shannon on social media and described her as “one in a million”.
Jordan and Shannon met on the 25th of April 2009 and it was love at first sight. Jordan said they were meant to be together and were about to enter the next chapter of their lives after welcoming their little girl.
He wrote online: “Today is our 11 year anniversary – you gave me the best possible present ever in our baby daughter. I’m just devastated that you can’t be the mummy you’ve always wanted to be.
“I still can’t believe you are gone, my wonderful fiancee.”
Jordan thanked Shannon for everything she did for him since they met and said it’s only because of Shannon, he is what and where he is today.
He said Shannon was an amazing and terrific nurse who deserves the biggest round of applause for touching so many lives professionally and socially.
He said she made her proud and NHS has lost a young nurse who was so caring and compassionate and it was just the beginning of her career as a nurse.
He concluded his post: “You were one in a million Shannon Napier and I had the privilege to be yours for 11 years. All the pain is away now darling, daddy will make sure Abbie is safe and well, alongside the rest of the family!”
A GoFundMe page has been created to raise funds for Shannon’s memorial and to help her fiancé and their newborn daughter.
The cause of Shannon’s death is not known but it is believed she died due to the complications while giving birth.
