nine-year-old girl became so addicted to a video game that she wet herself so that she didn’t have to leave the game.
Her addiction even made her hit her father who was stopping her from playing the game.
The game, Fortnite was released last year in July and had been downloaded for about 40 million times.
Her obsession with her game was so much that she played the game during the night while her parents would sleep and could not remove herself from the game for even a washroom break.
The girl is now in intensive therapy, fighting her addiction when once she could play the game for ten hours a day and night. Tired from all the nightly game sessions, she used to doze off at the school.
When her father tried to take away her Xbox, she threw the gaming console on his head.
Her mother said that when they let her play the game, they had no idea about the addictive nature of the game or the effect it would have on her brain.
She was given Xbox in January and then she downloaded Fortnite on it, which is promoted by many celebrities.
Then two months after they were concerned about her when her teacher told them about her poor grades and sleeping habits in class. She used to be outdoor kind of girl, but since the game, she said that she was too tired to go for her ballet classes or to the gym. She even avoided going to the church with her families, on Sunday.
Her parents became aware of payments being made from their credit card to the Microsoft, around $50 every month. When they confronted their daughter about the matter, then she said that she had spent the money on buying the in-game purchases that help to boost her performance.
However, when she was found sitting on a urine-soaked cushion, that day became the turning point. She confessed about her addiction and told her parents that she had been playing the game after they sleep, sometimes after 5 am.
She has now joined rehab for fighting the addiction.
Matt Hancock, Culture Secretary, said that the children are jeopardizing their health by playing these violent video games.
