With the blossoming of social media, the possibilities have become endless.
It is very easy for us nowadays to get out a message.
The family of 15-year-old Sadie Riggs from Bedford, Pennsylvania felt they had a message that people needed to hear and they used an obituary and the spread of social media to do this.
It is not often that an obituary contains highly personalized message but, the family felt that under the circumstances this was dire. The family was not going to let the incidence that took the life of their precious girl just slip by.
The lovely Sadie passed on June 19, 2017, after taking her own life. The family wanted everybody to know what had led the young girl into such an act and they wouldn’t have it any other way.
Sadie’s obituary went viral and after reading it you will understand why this was so.
The obituary started by boldly stating that Miss Sadie Riggs had taken her own life on that fateful day of June 19 by hanging herself. The obituary then gave an insight into Sadie’s personal struggles and the family’s greatest wish regarding her death.
They stated that Sadie was a troubled teen and that was seeking help by taking medications and attending counseling at the same time but it seemed that it was all too much for her young soul to take it all in.
The family then went ahead to explain that Sadie was a gift from God and she was not related to most of the family members by blood.
She was sent into the family by God who knew that this young soul needed a family. They also stated that Sadie had it tough in life but she always handled whatever life threw her way until an incident that had happened recently.
Sadie was excited to go to High school but things turned totally different for her. The family went on to call out the bullies involved by saying that they had played a crucial role in making Sadie feel worthless.
They went ahead to say that her death had taken them to dark places and they had come together as a family to support each other so they can be able to get over the tragic loss of their dear Sadie.
They called out the bullies and told them they had left all they had done to Sadie to God but also offered forgiveness by stating that it was not too late to change either.
The family proved to us that there still exist good people by saying that, they do not wish the bullies any pain as much as they despise their actions or how guilty they make them feel by wondering what they could have done differently to prevent things from going the way they did on that fateful day of June 19.
Bullying is defined as the act of using threat, force or coercion to intimidate, aggressively dominate or abuse others. Bullying is not confined to physical actions alone but it involves all attacks in relation to a person’s religion, appearance, race, sexual orientation, social class among others.
Bullying ranges from one on one to group bullying known as mobbing. Bullying also comes in many forms from physical, verbal and even cyberbullying. When bullying becomes habitual, it can take a heavy toll on the victim as is the case with our dear Sadie.
The family went on ahead and said that their hearts were beyond broken by Sadie’s death. The obituary ended by a message to Sadie saying that, they will always love her and what a privilege it was for them to have her in their lives and they wish that she may find peace in the arms of the Almighty God.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that we may all be kind to each other.
How heartbreaking it must have been for this family to put this obituary together. How heartbreaking must it have been for this family to know that they will never see their Sadie ever again as a result of the actions of some troubled and reckless teens who made Sadie feel worthless?
The family made an effort to teach us about the power bullies have on their victims and how devastating the end results can be.
Some may have the power to overcome the incidents and others like Sadie may lack the courage to. The whole point is no one should ever have to. Stop bullying today!
