Since release of the first Star Wars movie in 1977, it has become an integral part of the cultural fabric.
At the center of this decades long American mythos is Mark Hamill, who played the character of Luke Skywalker.
Unlike his fellow Star Wars alumni Harrison Ford, Hamill has always embraced the role of the Jedi warrior. However, he clarified in a recent interview that he will no longer play his most iconic role in the big screens.
The actor clarified that it had nothing to do with the mixed-to-negative reviews that the newest Star Wars movie, “The Rise of Skywalker”, received. In fact, Hamill said that it was a blast for him to play Luke once more but said that the character has completed its arc.

In the sequel trilogy that started with “The Force Awakens”, many fans were disappointed at how Luke was depicted. Regardless of all the controversy, the Jedi master did meet his end in the 8th film of the saga. His appearance in the last film could only be characterized as a cameo appearance.
Hamill thanked George Lucas and everyone else who helped create one of the most beloved characters in cinema history, but said that he doesn’t want to be greedy and hang on to the character.
The actor humbly said that there are so many new stories that could be told by new actors, and his role in the Star Wars universe was finished. Hamill spoke highly of “The Mandalorian”, a Star Wars spin-off that can be streamed on Disney +.
Hamill said that the critically acclaimed spin-off succeed in returning to the original soul of the franchise, which was a space western movie. He added that by not having to tell an epic story, the show had the opportunity to focus on individual characters, which was always the biggest appeal of Star Wars films.
