Sarah Bigler went to Target with her daughter after work.
As she tried to check out of the store as fast as she could like everyone else, she looked for the shortest line to check out.
When she chose the line, she recognized that there is a holdup by an elderly woman paying for her purchase in coins.

Bigler said, “I realized that the woman in front of me was taking quite a while, and I realized she was paying with change. I was at first frustrated and irritated thinking of my long day.”
Then, she noticed the cashier, Ismael Gilbert. While the elderly lady paid her purchase, he waited patiently and did not rush her.
She shared this moment on Facebook saying, “I watched the young employee with this woman.point 293 |
I watched him help her count her change, ever so tenderly taking it from her shaking hands.point 75 | I listened to him repeatedly saying ‘yes, ma’am,’ to her.point 129 | When she asked if she had enough to buy a reusable bag, he told her she did and went two lines over to get one for her and then repackaged her items.point 247 |
Never once did this employee huff, gruff or roll his eyes.point 48 | He was nothing but patient and kind.point 78 | ”point 81 | 1

She was impressed by him and thankful to him because he was being a great example for her three and a half years old daughter.
Gilbert says on the interview with CBS News that he treats every customer equally and the elderly woman was not an exception. “She kept telling me she’s sorry and I kept telling her ‘You’re fine'” said Gilbert.

After Bigler wrote on Facebook, she became co-workers with Gilbert. She has gotten Gilbert a job at the hospital where she works. He is now a patient care technician, and the hospital has offered him to pay for his nursing degree. What a surprise!
