If you do not wash your car properly, you could be fined heavily.
The drivers could be hit with an expensive fine up to $450 along with losing 3 demerit points in case their license plates are not displayed clearly and cleanly.
The NSW police took to Facebook to post the news and advised that not cleaning your motor vehicle’s license plate properly could lead to heavy fines.
As per the Regulation in the NSW Roads and Maritime Services, Clause 25, number plates must be clean and clear, and should not be defaced, obscured or otherwise not legible.
You can also be charged if the license plate of your vehicle is not displayed properly or is difficult to read. Additionally, the number plates should not be hinged.
If they are mot securely fixed to stop them from swinging from sight, $448 would be charged along with 3 points.
While the penalties and laws vary in every state, the users of social media have criticized this law on Facebook.
A user pointed out that with level 6 water restrictions, one cannot simply was your car. The user added that nowadays, there are fines for almost everything.
Another use supported this law and said that they agree to the fine. In different states of Australia, the fines differ.
They are either more or less than NSW’s fine.
In South Australia, car drivers with obstructed license plates could be fined with $474 as fine and $60 for the levy of the victim, which includes the support cost sought for victims.
However, in Western Australia, civilians would be charged only $100 in such a case. While in Victoria, the driver would be fined $161 only.
